That is the observation of the President of Vietnam Fine Arts Association – painter Luong Xuan Doan at the first exhibition of “The Flying Man and Surreal Dreams” by artist Dinh Phong which took place in Hanoi on November 24, 2020.
Nearly 70 paintings, bronze statues and glazed ceramics are “accelerated” to completion within 6 months. Many visitors to the exhibition were surprised by all the works of art made by an artist who is over 40 years old, but has never gone through painting school.
“New artist” Dinh Phong is an entrepreneur, but his mind has never stopped loving art: “I have always dreamed of strange dreams, away from real life, everyone has their own dreams. Each of the works here are vague pieces of the puzzle that have been gathered in the mind. Holding a drawing pen seems to have “liberated” the creative energy that has accumulated in me over the past few decades
“During 6 months of implementation, I locked myself in a room for 12-14 hours a day, I have lost more than 7kg. Art is like an electric current flowing through each cell which makes me unable to stop composing ”, painter Dinh Phong said.
Artist Dinh Phong has been charming and passionate about painting since he was 19 years old. He himself was fascinated by the Cubist works of Pablo Picasso and Surrealism by Salvador Dali. Therefore, a series of works of art were born in the genre of abstract art.
Artist Dinh Phong’s exhibition has received the attention of many domestic artists, especially the presence of painter Luong Xuan Doan (President of Vietnam Fine Arts Association): “If we can find one most impressive work is difficult. The pictures and statues here are like flowing water, one painting invites the other to not stop. Dinh Phong’s works have established the idea of “flying people” in a surreal space that seems to have no end. It is an open space that the viewer reaches wherever he or she can form a separate story ”.
On a chance meeting with Mr. Dinh Phong, artist Dinh Van Son was able to admire some of his grandfather’s first paintings, he shared: “I was very surprised when I first saw Dinh Phong’s paintings. Now I believe that a person who has never attended a professional painting class can draw pictures that are so attractive to the viewer.”
I came up with the thought that if I could convey ideas from a mold to touchable things, it would be great. It seems that there is a similarity between me and Dinh Phong. I have been with him for the past 6 months and provided technical support when he made the sculptures
An exhibition of paintings and sculptures “Flying Man and Surreal Dreams” by artist Dinh Phong will continue to be on display until November 30, 2020 at Art Space – Vietnam University of Fine Arts – No. 42 Yet Kieu, Hanoi. This is an opportunity not to be missed for those who love, admire and enjoy paintings.
